Chef
Akasha has devoted most of her life to her passion of using healthy and
organic ingredients in mainstream cooking. As a teenager in South Florida,
her idea of fun was to invite all the surfers on the beach over for one
of her creative vegetarian dinners. Her love of healthy foods, surfing,
and yoga led her to Los Angeles, where she became the chef at the Golden
Temple, one of the cities original vegetarian restaurants. It was at the
Golden Temple that she began to define her own style of cuisine with a
critically acclaimed menu and a bakery full of sugar free cookies, cakes
and pies. She brought her knowledge of "foods that heal" to everything
she created and to some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Akasha works
as a private chef and caters parties and events in Los Angeles. Some of
her favorite experiences include: cooking holiday dinners for Billy Bob
Thornton, catering events at the Sundance Film Festival, making Thanksgiving
dinner for 200 while on tour with Michael Jackson, and catering parties
for Kyle McLachlan. Akasha has catered backstage for the Grammy's, dinner
parties for for Al Pacino, photo shoots for Richard Gere, and birthday
parties for Winona Ryder.
Akasha has
traveled and cooked all over the world exploring local markets, restaurants
and regional foods in Asia, India, North Africa, Australia and Eastern/Western
Europe. Her first book, The Art of Tofu: Celebrated Vegetarian Recipes
from Around the World contains a collection of 50 recipes inspired by these
travels.
In addition,
Akasha writes a monthly column called Trends for Vegetarian Times Magazine
and works as a spokesperson for Silk Soymilk. Her passions include traveling,
entertaining, writing and collecting cookbooks from the last century. She
lives with her husband and fourteen year old daughter in Los Angeles.
